Microwave Toastie Maker

I have always been told that you do not put metal items in a microwave oven as it will spark and destroy the microwave, so was a bit dubious about ordering this AHJ toastie sandwich maker, but I do like a toasted sandwich so decided to give it a go.

The sandwich maker is quite compact and is just big enough to fit your average slice of bread. For reference, in my testing I used Warburtons Toastie bread which was about the perfect length for this sandwich maker. While this device can apparently cook a variety of things from toasties to fried eggs I opted for a simple cheese and onion sandwich.

You are supposed to butter the outside of the bread, and I probably put a little too much on as the end result for my first test was just a little greasy to the touch, but other than that it actually was not bad at all. I do have a sandwich maker from a well-known brand already which does cook the outside of the bread a little more evenly and makes the sandwich a little more crispy, but on the plus side this AHJ sandwich maker is far easier to clean as it only has two metal plates that you just pull out of the silicone covering, and the whole thing is dishwasher safe.

There is a guide included which shows suggested timings for a number of different fillings, most of which do require additional cooking, and shows you how to work out the timing based on the wattage of your microwave.

never expected one of my favourite purchase to actually be a microwave toastie maker... I love it, i love toasties, my waistline doesnt, so i havent got a toastie maker on purpose... now you have ruined my plan of never getting one. I saw this and scoffed, who makes toasties in a microwave, so had to try it.

Well i was proved wrong and tbf this is actually the nicest toastie i have ever made at home. So easy to use, easy to clean and now i need to buy bigger trousers, so thanks for nothing.

I made a cheese and ham one and tried it without butter on the outside and it was good, but once id spread a small amount of butter on the outside of the bread, the toast was really gold and crisp. Honestly , you need to try it for yourself. This little thing is amazing and it really works. Such a small foot print and you get two little silicon mittens to stop you burning your hands, Great quality and well worth the money

This is an amazing invention. I was a little uncertain when it arrived and seemed to have a metal liner to it, but this is fine to be used in a microwave, we have done it and the results having followed the supplied instructions were fantastic. One of the best toasted sandwiches I have had.
My next concern was the clean up afterwards, as cheese has a habit of sticking to everything and sometimes being tricky to remove. No need for concern, the non stick surface and the silicane were a breeze to clean in a few minutes in the sink (we do not use a dishwasher).

Overall I am so impressed with this item, and it takes up very little room when compared to our old and now defunct sandwich toaster which was a so and so to clean - happy days!
